Cartier Tokyo Lab - The Facility
A purpose-built innovation lab established in Tokyo to explore the future of luxury through technology, design, and human insight
Problem
Cartier needed a permanent innovation presence in Asia that could operate at the same depth as its US and China labs, while reflecting Japan’s unique strengths in craftsmanship, technology, and culture. Existing structures were not designed to prototype, test, and scale innovation locally.
Solution
We built the Cartier Tokyo Lab from the ground up as the brand’s third global innovation hub. The lab was designed as a working space for engineers, designers, and strategists to develop human-centered luxury experiences, while also informing exhibitions, pop-ups, and cultural installations across Japan.
Results
The Tokyo Lab established Cartier as a long-term innovation leader in the region and became a strategic engine supporting retail, cultural programs, and experiential work. It enabled faster experimentation, deeper local insight, and closer collaboration between global teams, reinforcing Cartier’s position at the intersection of luxury, technology, and culture.
